TATSUYA NAKATANI will be a special guest on the Mysterious Black Box radio show this Wednesday February 5th – 7pm-9pm.
Amazing, intuitive, and versatile percussionist and gong master, Tatsuya uses drums, gongs, cymbals, singing bowls, and much else to create organic, intense music. Originally from Osaka, Japan, he has been residing in the USA since 1994 and is currently based in Easton, PA.
Since the late 1990s, Tatsuya Nakatani has released over sixty recordings in the USA and Europe and has performed countless solo percussion concerts through intensive touring. He has also collaborated with hundreds of other artists internationally and presented masterclasses, workshops and lectures across the USA and around the world.
NAKATANI GONG ORCHESTRA is a non-traditional music orchestra, directed and conducted by Tatsuya Nakatani. His original idea of NGO was to create a rich harmony of multiple gongs, by sharing simple techniques with players and audiences. For each show, he gives specialized training to locally selected gong players. Each player is able to quickly learn about the gong instruments, playing techniques and sign conducting from Tatsuya. This is an ongoing, successful growing project and the only bowing based Gong orchestra existing in the world. The Gong sound is simply magical for anyone. NGO has performed over 50 shows all over the USA since April 2011. Each performance has inspired the spirit of all attendees. Many audience members have said “I have never experienced this before”, in addition they describe having a pure cleansing feeling after the event.
THURSDAY FEBRUARY 6TH – Tatsuya Nakatani will perform a set of solo percussion and conduct an 11-person Gong Orchestra at MOCA-Cleveland. 8pm.
